So when I saw Silver RavenWolf’s article on how to make these cards, I thought “This looks easy and it is something I can make using my digital drawings.” Well I was wrong about the easy part! Making these cards literally RIPPED MY WORLD APART! I was Christian before I made these cards and now I am Wiccan practicing Witchcraft, it’s crazy! Here’s my story.
It was a Tuesday night in March when I decided to make these cards. That night I read the article, “How To Make Powerful Conjuring Cards Using the ATC/ACEO Format”, with the intention of learning what was being taught in the article. I also brought some questions with me as I read. The questions I had were ‘what is positive and negative energy and why is cleansing so important’. After reading the article from start to finish, I fell asleep. During the night I had a dream which ROCKED MY WORLD! I woke up and fell out of bed, shaking my head, saying “How did that dream happened!” After three days of holding my head and dealing with my emotions around the dream, I realized something, my questions were answered! I now understand what positive and negative energy is and why cleansing is so important. Even though I had put the article down to sleep, I was still experiencing the article and the lesson it was teaching in my dreams. There was also a message in the dream, and that message was “DO NOT LET ANYTHING GET IN THE WAY OF COMPLETING THIS CARD, NO MATTER WHAT!” That’s when I said “Damn!” Now I knew that making this card was not going to be easy! And it wasn’t!
The first conjuring card I made was a protection card. It has an image of my interpretation of the Celtic Goddess, The Morrigan. The Morrigan is a dark Goddess in the Celtic Pantheon. She is the Goddess I work with most of the time. She was the first Goddess I encounter after I decided to walk the Wiccan Path. She is a triple Goddess. She is the Goddess of battle, strife and sovereignty. She is a war Deity. I’m not going to go into much more detail about her except that she destroys so that new things can grow.
One of the supplies I would need to make this card is Holy Water. Of course I had to find out how to do this and did my research to get my answer. One of the ingredients is water from a spring or river. So there I am looking at my kitchen sink saying “Can’t I use this water,” and my subconscious mind said “No, you have to find a river or stream to get the water.” Great! So I’m practicing my guitar and my subconscious mind is saying “Go get the water,” and my conscious mind is saying “No, I’m playing guitar.” Well this bickering went on in my head for about twenty minutes. Finally, I put down my guitar, annoyed. I got in my car with a plastic jug and drove around looking for a stream. When I found a stream, I got out of my car, found a path to the stream, got the water and walked back to my car. On the way back my subconscious mind said “See I told you that would be easy.” My conscious mind said “SHUT UP!”
Alright now I have to make the Holy Water. My subconscious mind says to me “you have to make this at midnight tonight, outdoors,” and my conscious mind said, “You have got to be kidding me!” I live in an apartment building and I have no private space to make this formula. So there I was at 10:00 pm walking around my apartment complex looking for a private space, saying to myself, “I can’t believe I’m doing this!” Finally I found a space. It wasn’t private, it was semi private but the moonlight was perfect. So there I was at midnight performing my ritual standing in between my building, a row of trees and a major highway overpass. When I casted my sacred circle, it had to be the weakest circle a human could possibly make. At the end of the ritual, I looked at the water and said “Wow, the Goddess actually blessed this water.” My next thought was “I better get out of here before I’m either mugged or someone calls the police.” The next morning I woke up and looked at the water and my conscious mind said “That water is not blessed,” then my subconscious mind smacked my conscious mind and said “Yes it is, now stop it!” (FYI, when your subconscious mind is determined to re-train your conscious mind, it can be a real battle.)
So now I start to make the image of the Morrigan. This took me quite a while to create. Not only was I drawing, I was also researching who the Morrigan is by reading books about her myth. My thoughts were only about the Morrigan during this time. One day, I looked up and saw that my world was destroyed! I couldn’t salvage anything from my life. Since I was so involved in learning about the Morrigan and her religion, I hadn’t realized that I was destroying Christianity. This is when I decided to physically remove everything from my life that was Christian. I was never a practicing Christian but I didn’t realize how much Christian crap I had. Removing all of this crap was not easy. I had to clean my entire home. So every day I would pick a room and went through it throwing stuff out. I found that even though I didn’t look at most of this stuff, it was very difficult to let go of it. I didn’t realize until I was cleaning that even though I was not practicing, I was still living inside of Christianity’s philosophies and teachings. After removing all the physical Christian stuff from my life, I then spent a day in a ritual of cleansing. I used sage to cleansed Christianity’s energies from my home and I bathed using herbs that cleansed Christianity from body. Then I invoked the Morrigan in ritual and burned Christianity from my soul. The Morrigan was very happy once the burning was complete. I felt very euphoric and free after the ritual.
Now I was ready to make the card. It was funny, my first thought was to skip over the conjuring of protection and just put the card together. Then my subconscious mind said “No you don’t, get the article and follow it.” (That subconscious mind can be so annoying!) So there I was on a Friday night following the directions in the article. I must say, I’m glad I listened to my subconscious because the experience was very rewarding.
The next day I was playing my guitar wondering what my next card would be, when the phone rang. It was my mom letting me know that my 7 year old niece, who has cerebral palsy, needed surgery. I hung up the phone and said “healing card!” My niece loves dogs so I made drawings of dogs. Dogs are protective animals, do I make a protection card or a healing card? I’m pondering this question in work when it dawned on me, most deities are associated with animals, I wondered what god or goddess is associated with dogs? When I get home I googled it. (How did we live with out google?) The Goddess that came up was the mesopotamian Goddess Gula. She is the Goddess of healing and the patron of medicine and physicians. I couldn’t believe it. I just stood there and said “I can’t make this up.” Then I saw the Goddess, she walked up to me and greeted me. I looked at her and said “Hello.” I like her, she is kind and gentle. She is the mother that you want at your bedside when you are sick. So when I created the healing card for my niece I invoked the Goddess Gula. I knew she was going to be with my niece so I used her energies to create the card. Again it was an awesome experience.
The next day I got up to take my morning walk. I felt really good from making the card the night before. After locking my door I turned, looked up and was greeted by the moon! I said, “You have got to be kidding me!” It was 9:30 in the morning, the sun was shining and the moon was still visible in the sky! As I walked the Goddess (the moon) walked with me. During my walk she was either leading, following or walking beside me. At one point during my walk, I stopped, pulled out my protection card, looked at it then looked at the moon and thought “The Goddess is protecting me.” Shook my head in disbelieve and continued to walk around my neighborhood.
The next day I saw my niece and gave her the card. She was so cute. At first she didn’t know how to respond, but after a few minutes she thanked me and then showed me her art gallery. We talked about her drawings of dogs and I help her tape some other drawings up on the wall. When my other niece came over, she saw the card and loved it. Her face told me so! I asked if she wanted one and she said yes. I then asked what she wanted on the card, at first she didn’t know but after a few minutes she opened right up. Now I have to make three cards. Two with a special agent dog (one for both of my nieces) and one with a basketball theme. Then my nephew saw the card and wanted one. I asked what he wanted on the card and he told me a dragon. Finally, my oldest nephew saw the card and he told me to surprise him with a design.
After being with my niece and thinking about how much she loves dogs, I started thinking about my childhood. When I was young I had a great affinity for the wolf. And of course as I got older, I pushed aside the wolf and all that it had to offer me. Well I’m not going to do that anymore. The wolf is very much a part of my life now and I’m enjoying every minute of the wolf’s presences in my world.
My niece had her surgery the following week, and came through just fine. I knew she would because the Goddess Gula was there during her surgery. A funny thing happen the day of her surgery. I called my mother at 2:00pm to find out how my niece was and she told me that she was going into surgery the moment I called. I hung up the phone and had a funky feeling. I didn’t know what time the surgery was but called at the exact moment she was going into surgery.
A lot of magical things happened in the process of making these cards and seeing what I had conjured up afterwards. But what is most magical is my relationship with my nieces and nephews. Because of these cards, I’m getting to know them in a whole new light. My niece and I are best friends now. It is so funny! She sends me messages as much as she can. I am really enjoying the magick these cards are conjuring up, it is way beyond my expectations.
